The role of the Principal Contractor, as defined in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 is to plan, manage and monitor the construction phase and coordinate matters relating to health and safety during the construction phase to ensure that, so far as is reasonably practicable, construction work is carried out without risks to health and safety.
Accordingly, effective management of health and safety is crucial in achieving compliance with the CDM Regulations.
CDM Scotland Ltd has the required competencies to act as your Principal Contractor which would allow your Main Contractor to concentrate on the build of your project while safety matters and the safety culture on your project are dealt with by safety and CDM professionals.
This model works well on projects where historically the Principal Contractor would change in the middle of the project. An example of this could be wind farm construction. The Civils Contractor would historically have been Principal Contractor for the installation of roads, turbine bases and associated infrastructure and the Turbine Supplier would then become Principal Contractor during the Turbine Erection Phase. Having CDM Scotland Ltd as Principal Contractor would ensure that the same high standards are maintained for the duration of the project.

We would monitor compliance with relevant legislation throughout the works and ensure documentation, policies and practices are established which support the aim of having zero work-related health issues and injuries to employees and others affected by the company’s undertakings on site. All this in addition to measures taken to ensure compliance with your Client’s expectations regarding safety compliance.
The Safety Consultant will assist your team to plan, produce, implement, monitor and review the organisation’s site-based H&S management system and review existing and establish site-required related documentation.
